Apart from the following remedies one should also consider the possibility of repeating the last remedy that acted for the chronic treatment or give another remedy according to the symptomatology.
APIS MELLIFICA
Especially on the left side of the face.
Marked swelling of the face and especially about the eye.
The rash is bright pink, swollen, itchy and produces stinging pains.
After bites of insect with sudden swelling and redness.
AGG: warm.
AMEL: cold applications.
ARSENICUM ALBUM
WEAKNESS, RESTLESSNESS, ANXIETY, COLDNESS.
Terrible burning pains along the nerve pathway.
Itching, must scratch until it bleeds.
Especially the right side of the face, neck or torso.
The patient may be restless, anxious, thirsty for small quantities often, and afraid to be alone.
AMEL : Pains are often made better with the application of warm compresses.
CANTHARIS
In herpes zoster it is almost specific.
In vesicular erysipelas, and in herpes zoster. Big bubbles with smarting and burning pain.
Also in an ointment made with the 3x is a good application for herpes zoster.
CLEMATIS ERECTUS
Burning, with red blisters that become.
May be accompanied by urinary tract complaints.
AGG: especially at night time.
AMEL: with the application of cold water.
DOLICHOS
Herpes zoster with itching, burning and subsequent neuralgia before or after the outbreak or even in the absence of eruption.
Tremendous itching or burning long.
Left scapula extending to chest. Gums.
AMEL: Night. Cold bathing.
GRAPHITES
One of the main remedies in herpes and especially in genital herpes and in groins.
Herpes zoster on the left side (Cantharis mostly on the right side).
Eczema and herpes are found on the face with glutinous moisture.
The most frequent areas affected are the antecubital and popliteal fossae (Hepar, Graph, Nat m), around the margins of the scalp, and in the ears (especially in the ears of children), and the discharge of yellowish, thick, sticky fluid-looking like serum – is offensive.
AGG : the itching is worse at night, during and after menses, when touched.
AMEL: from wrapping up, open air.
IRIS VERSICOLOR
Rash is right sided, on the abdomen, and under the right arm.
Often accompanied by gastric derangements or problems with the pancreas and pain in liver, mainly right side.
Thyroid, PANCREAS, salivary, intestinal glands, and gastrointestinal mucous membrane are especially affected.
Increases the flow of bile.
AMEL.: from continuous motion.
MEZEREUM
Both during the eruption and for the neuralgia remaining after, especially if the pains are burning. Mainly in intercostal nerves.
The blisters are oozing, bright red, and agg night and heat (Ars., Sulph.).
Violent neuralgia of the face (infraorbital nerve) and head following herpes zoster.
AMEL: Terrible itching, better with cold application.
AGG: Night. Heat of bed. Becoming heated. Slight pressure.
MERCURIUS
Shingles erode the skin and become itchy and highly sensitive.
Herpetic eruptions which are surrounded by small pimples.
Right side.
Abdomen (“like a girdle”). Inguinal region.
Herpes of right forearm, wrist & hand.
Eroding or spreading vesicles.
Burning of the eruption when touched, humid, with large scales on edges.
Nervous affections after suppressed discharges especially in psoric patients.
AGG: Night. Heat of bed. Open air. Lying on painful side.
PRUNUS SPINOSA
Herpes with dropsy.
As a remedy in many cases of neuralgic pains with or following herpes zoster.
Tightness and stitching pains.
Chest and torso.
Face and orbit, especially on the right side.
Herpes zoster combined with angina pectoris.
Iching in finger tips, as if they are frozen
RANUNCULUS BULBOSUS
Main remedy in herpes.
The rash is deeply inflamed, accompanied with stabbing pains, often on the ribcage.
AFFECTS THE NERVES AND MUSCLES, ESPECIALLY CHEST MUSCLES.
Often small, deep, transparent, dark-blue, little elevated blisters, of the size of an ordinary pin’s head.
Fear of ghosts in evening.
Fear of being alone.
RHUS TOX
Very common remedy in herpes.
It can relieve the itching and pains.
The rash consists of small, red fluid-filled vesicles, or blisters, that break when scratched, spreading the infection.
The patient is often restless, changing positions often to seek relief.
Predominantly left sided, and hot baths and warm applications can bring temporary relief.
Rhus toxicodendron, Sepia and Natrum muriaticum can have big eruptions. The herpes of Medorrhinum is very small, very small vesicles. Do not forget Tuberculinum. We often change Rhus toxicodendron and Tuberculinum, but Tuberculinum often follows Rhus toxicodendron. Both have the same modalities. (Restless, desire milk, Agg wet-cold weather) .
