Introduction
In homeopathy, not every symptom carries the same weight. Some symptoms are common, like a headache or feeling worse in the cold, and many different remedies can cause these. But some symptoms are rare, strange, and very specific. In homeopathic language, we call these “singular rubrics,” and they are often the key to finding the correct remedy for a case.
The rubric list this article is based on is a strong example of this. It contains vivid, unusual mental and physical states such as fear of the dark, fear of deep water, delusions of being buried alive, and laughing that alternates suddenly with rage or weeping. Taken together, these rubrics point strongly towards one remedy in classical homeopathic literature: Stramonium.
The Classical Stramonium Picture
Stramonium, also called Thorn Apple, has long been recognised in homeopathic materia medica as a remedy connected to intense fear, violent delirium, and dramatic swings in mental state. The rubrics in this list build up that picture clearly.
There is a strong theme of fear and terror, including fear of the dark, fear of water, fear of animals, and fear of cemeteries, along with a desire to be near light rather than in darkness. There are unusual delusions, including thinking oneself naked, imagining being buried alive on one side of the body, or believing one has been killed and eaten. And there is a repeated pattern of sudden alternation, such as laughing turning to rage, laughing turning to weeping, or muscle contraction alternating between the hands and feet.
Classically, this picture was most associated with acute and often feverish states, high fever with delirium, convulsions, and night terrors in both children and adults.
A note on modern practitioner use in children
Some contemporary homeopathic practitioners report using Stramonium as a constitutional remedy in children who show marked fear, night terrors, sudden behavioural swings, or intense reactions to darkness, strangers, or specific triggers, drawing on this same symptom picture. This is practitioner clinical experience and case-based observation, not an established or clinically validated indication for autism or ADHD.
Autism and ADHD are diagnosed neurodevelopmental conditions with their own clinical criteria, and a child showing signs of either should be properly evaluated by a paediatrician, developmental specialist, or psychologist rather than matched to a remedy from a symptom list alone. Where a homeopath identifies a strong individual case match to the Stramonium picture in a child already under proper developmental care, that is a matter for clinical judgement in consultation, not a general claim to make in public health content.
Why singular rubrics matter
Dr Hasnain Kaisrani’s approach to repertory work places particular value on rubrics like these because they narrow the search quickly, reflect the individual rather than the general disease label, and protect against over-generalising a case. A common rubric with two hundred remedies does little to guide a prescription. A singular or near-singular rubric, especially one as vivid as fear of being buried alive, does far more of that work.
