The main symptoms:
Stiffness, soreness and cramps of the muscles of the neck and often of the shoulder region.
The pain can extend upwards to the back of the head or even up to the eyes.
In some cases, the pain extends to the shoulders, arms and even down to the fingers.
Numbness, weakness and tingling in the arms.Vertigo or dizziness may be accompanied.
There is a spasm of the muscles at the nape of the neck and the shoulder region.
CALCAREA CARBONICA
Stiffness and rigidity in the nape of the neck.
Swelling of the cervical glands.
Profuse PERSPIRATION DURING SLEEP esp. on the CERVICAL REGION, chest and scalp.
A weak, sensitive spine.
AGG.: exertion, cold, cold wet weather, draft of air.
AMEL.: warm dry weather.
CALCAREA FLUORICA
Calcifications and stiffness throughout the neck and spine.
Scoliosis; spinal curvatures.
AMEL: Heat. Motion.
CALCAREA PHOSPHORICA
Marked pain and stiffness of spine and especially neck.
Pain from draught of air, with stiffness and dullness in the head.
This can be quite painful and also cause vertigo if a nerve gets pressed.
Sighing.
Pain in the back from lifting or straining. Curvature of spine.
AGG: Drafts. Swallowing. Exertion.
CAULOPHYLLUM
Stiffness of nape of neck, cutting pain when closing hand.
Rheumatic stiffness of nape.
Severe drawing in sterno-cleido-mastoid drawing head to left.(Clarke).
CAUSTICUM
Neck and back pain with marked stiffness and often calcification.
An important remedy for torticollis.
INVOLUNTARY URINATION when coughing, sneezing, blowing the nose due to the weakness of the sphincter of the urethra.
Disposition to hawk.
AGG: Cold, dry weather. Motion. Swallowing (Calc.-p.).
Back pain worse rising from a seat.
AMEL: Heat. On becoming warm in bed.
CIMICIFUGA
Severe neck pain and stiffness in nervous, neurasthenic and hysterical women.
Rheumatic complaints. Rheumatic back pain.
Neck spasms.
Stiffness of cervical region. Along with this, the cervical spine is also very sensitive to the touch.
Back pain and sciatica with severe drawing pains.
Incessant talking, loquacity changing from one subject to another. Loquacious delirium.
AGG: Drafts. Motion of arm or even hand.
Pressure or massage. Bending forward.
AGG: Menses. Pregnancy.
CONIUM
Neck pain WITH VERTIGO.
Vertigo when lying down or when turning around in bed. There is vertigo on turning the head sideways. There is dull pain in the occipital region or in the back of the head.
One feels tightness in the temporal region.
GELSEMIUM
Neck pain with pain extending to back of head.
Every little exertion causes fatigue. Pain in the neck, especially in the sternocleidomastoid muscles.
Dullness and dizziness.
Patient feels weak and is listless. Any emotional excitement brings on the pain or triggers it.
AGG.: damp weather, fog, before a thunderstorm, emotion, or excitement, BAD NEWS, tobacco smoking, thinking of his ailments.
AMEL.: bending forward, profuse urination, open air, continued motion, stimulants.
HYPERICUM
Pain in nape of neck. After a fall, slightest motion of arms or neck extorts cries.
Cervical vertebrae very sensitive to the touch. (Clarke).
Excellent remedy for nerve pain, Don’t give hypericum without pain.
KALMIA
Neck rheumatic pain extending to arm or even down to the fingers.
PROMINENT ACTION ON THE HEART.
In bed at night, the pains become very severe and last all night.
Pain in heart alternating with rheumatism.
Head pains very severe, often begin in the back of the neck or back of the head, and extend to the top of the head.
AGG.: leaning forward (OPPOSITE of Kali-c.), looking down, motion, open air.
RHUS-TOX
Rhus-tox is a very common remedy for cervical problems.
Complaint arising after over straining, overuse or injury to the neck
Pain and excessive stiffness in the neck.
RESTSLENESS especially physically and in the bed
AMEL: warm applications on the neck. Neck massage. Continued movement
AGG : pain and stiffness early in the morning, and taking rest. Pain first movement.
SANGUINARIA
Stiff neck, especially to the right side, with great pain on movement.
Pain confined to shoulder, shoulder-cap and cervical region; trapezius sore under pressure and painful at every movement of head or shoulder; deltoid and biceps very tender to pressure, and so sensitive by use that it was impossible to raise arm from side. < AT NIGHT.
All arthritic complaints aggravated by wet weather.
Rheumatism.
AGG: lying, stormy weather, motion of affected part.
AMEL: lying on back.
SILICEA
Cervical with neck pain going to eyes.
Weak spine; very sensitive to drafts.
Takes cold from exposure of feet.
Sweat of hands, feet and axillae; offensive.
The patient is usually chilly and cannot tolerate cold. The pain feels better by warm fomentation or heat and is increased by lying down.
Want of vital heat, always chilly. Constipation. History of ingrowing toenails.
AGG.: Cold; during menses; DURING NEW MOON; UNCOVERING, especially the head; LYING DOWN.
AMEL: Warmth (warm stove, bed, applications, from wrapping), warm wet weather.
