VERTIGO – Main and Top Homeopathic remedies

Apart from the following remedies one should also consider the possibility of repeating the last remedy that acted for the chronic treatment or give another remedy according to the symptomatology.

Main Remedies:

BRYONIA ALBA

Keywords: < EVERY MOTION, SENSATION AS IF “SINKING INTO BED”.

Severe vertigo attacks with sensation AS THOUGH SINKING THROUGH THE BED.
Every single motion aggravates the patient; he has to stand still. Even eye movement brings about nausea and vomiting.
Vertigo on moving or raising head, on rising in the morning. Objects reel (Bell.), objects seem to turn in a circle (Cycl., Chel., Nat-m.).
Vertigo with vomiting, faintness or syncope.

Modalities

Worse: MOTIONtrying to rise from bed, standing.
Better: standing still, lying, rest.

CALCAREA CARBONICA

Keywords: <ASCENDING, MOVING HEAD QUICKLY.

Chronic and acute forms of vertigo.
The vertigo is aggravated by ASCENDING stairs or high places (Sulph.), or even by seeing someone else on an eminence.
Vertigo on sudden movement or turning of the head (Bry., Con.), after walking.
Vertigo with headache, with the tendency to fall sideways (Cocc, Nux-v).
Vertigo as if he turns in a circle. Vertigo that is felt in the vertex.

Modalities
Worse: exertionafter walking, before or during menses, sudden motion of headascending, rest, rising,after sleep.

COCCULUS INDICUS

Keywords: VERTIGO FROM NIGHT-WATCHING, < MOTION OF EYES, NAUSEA.

Vertigo from LOSS OF SLEEP. MOTION-SICKNESS from watching moving objects or while watching objects while riding in a car. Sea-sickness.
True vertigo starting from sleep; he rises from bed nauseous, with the sensation that the room is spinning.

Vertigo on turning in bed (Bell.), on rising, while LYING DOWN, on turning or moving head quickly (Calc., Bry.)during headache.
Vertigo often attributed to hormonal imbalance. Vertigo in elderly people.

Modalities
Worse: Lying, turning over in bed, moving head or even eyes, wine, during menses.
Better: on closing eyes (Gels.), rest.

Other remedies:

BELLADONNA

Keywords: SUDDEN ONSET, <TURNING IN BED, <JAR, FACE CONGESTED, EXTREMITIES COLD.

Acute and chronic forms of vertigo.
Sudden onset of Meniere’s syndrome with tinnitus and vertigo that makes the patient unable to turn in bed (Con., Bry.).
Violent attacks with the sensation that objects reel (Bry.)
Vertigo aggravated by JARlight and noise; the patient needs to be alone in dark and silence.
Vertigo with hot and congested head and cold extremitiespupils dilated.
Vertigo from hypertensive crisis, stroke or brain ischemia.
Headache with vertigo (Calc., Con.).

Modalities
Worse: JARnoise, motion, turning in bed, turning head, stoopinglight, bending forward.
Better: being alone, dark, lying down, pressure.

GELSEMIUM SEMPERVIRENS

KeywordsOCCIPITAL VERTIGO, >URINATION, TREMBLING, STAGGERING, EYES HEAVY.

Vertigo that STARTS IN THE NECK OR OCCIPUT (Sil.) and extends to the whole head or vertigo with the sensation “as if falling from a height” (Caust.).
Vertigo is accompanied by weakness, trembling, staggering (Phos, Nux-v.) and heaviness of eyelids; he can hardly keep the eyes open.
Vertigo is ameliorated by copious urination.
Diplopia or visual disturbance (Nux-v, Ferr., Cycl.) with vertigo.
Vertigo on turning the head quickly (Calc., Con., Bry.), during pregnancy (Nat-m.), during menses (Puls.), from smoking (Nat-m., Nux-v.).

Modalities
Worse: morning, exertion, walking.
Better: on closing eyes (Con.), after urination.

PHOSPHORUS

Keywords: <EXERTION OF VISION, ON RISING IN THE MORNING, ON LOOKING UP OR DOWN.

Chronic or periodical vertigo. One of the main remedies for Meniere’s disease with tinnitus.
Vertigo from EXERTION OF VISION (Nat-m.) or from loss of fluids (Chin.).
Vertigo on looking upwardson rising from a seat or bed, on looking downwhile walking.
Vertigo from odor of flowers. Vertigo with staggering 
(Gels.).
Vertigo when they lie on the left side 
(Sil). As soon as they turn to their right, the vertigo ceases.

Modalities
Worse: exerting the vision, morning upon risinglooking upwards, after stool or loss of fluids, lying on the left side, odors
Better: lying on the right side, lying down, after sleep.

SILICA

Keywords: VERTIGO WITH EAR OR SINUS TROUBLES, OCCIPITAL, COMES UP THE BACK.

Vertigo associated with sinusitis and stopped ears. Meniere’s syndrome with chronic sinus problems. Epileptic vertigo.
Occipital vertigo (Gels.) that extends to the whole head.
Vertigo associated with suppression of perspiration esp. of axilla or feet.
Vertigo with headache (Con., Calc., Bell.), with sleepiness, while half asleep, with tendency to fall right (Calc., Caust.) or backwards (Rhus-t.).
Vertigo coming up the back into the head.

Modalities
Worse: lying on the back (Puls, Merc.), lying on left side (Phos.), motion, riding, driving, walking, looking upwards, while sitting, exertion of vision (Nat-m.).
Better: wrapping up the head.
