Trigeminal Neuralgia

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Trigeminal neuralgia:
Obviously, the reason you are hearing me talk about trigeminal neuralgia is because you have been diagnosed with it. Your doctor would have told you what it is all about or you would have read about it on the net.

How common is trigeminal neuralgia?
Trigeminal neuralgia affects 4–5 in 100,000 people. It is nearly twice as common in women.

Symptoms of trigeminal neuralgia?
The pain varies from person to person. It can start near the cheekbones and go all the way down or the pain comes near the eyebrows or goes down to the jaw, or the back. It can be either on the right side or the left side of the face. You have excruciating, shock-like pain which is very bad. The pain comes and stays for one or a few seconds and goes away but the pain is so excruciating that it takes away your entire energy.

Allopathic approach:
In allopathy, they put you on gabapentin or other neurological medications, and as long as you are on these meds your pain comes down but once you stop these medications, you are back to square one. If the pain does not come down with medicines they do surgery. There is not much of a solution for trigeminal neuralgia in allopathy.

Homeopathic approach:
You need to understand that the pain is because of the inflammation of the nerve. Such severe pains usually come when a nerve is involved. I have had people coming to me who have been suffering for years and who are on a lot of neurological medications, steroids but the pain still continues. We start them on homeopathic medicines along with their allopathic medicines side by side and as the patient begins to feel better, we gradually taper off the allopathic medication.

The whole idea of allopathic medicines is to give you relief but it does not aim at curing it and these medicines come with a lot of side effects also which add to the existing problem. So the whole idea is to get you off allopathic medications as much as possible and keep you only on homeopathy. If you are a new patient who has not yet started allopathy, we can help you much faster and much better.

There could be occasions where the pain spikes up and become severe, use allopathy for a little while when you have an acute flare-up and then get back to homeopathy again.

People who are already on allopathic medication:
We start homeopathic medicines along with allopathic medications and over a period of time, we taper off their allopathic medicines and keep them only on homeopathic medicines.

What happens if you don’t treat trigeminal neuralgia?
(If left alone, trigeminal neuralgia becomes worse. It becomes very difficult to live with and causes a huge impact on a person’s quality of life resulting in weight loss, low mood, depression.)

Do’s and Don’ts:
In some people, the pain gets aggravated when you are exposed to cold air. So be careful and do not expose yourselves to the cold draft of air.

Start meditation and yoga, as these things calm your mind and nerves. The chances of you getting an acute attack is very less when you are in a calm state of mind, but an aggravated state of mind or emotionally volatile person is more likely to get a lot of neurological issues.

What would I do if I was in your place?
I would for sure try homeopathy, you have nothing to lose and homeopathy has zero side effects. If I had trigeminal neuralgia, the first thing I would do is accept that this is going to be there for a long time and I will keep getting these aches and pains. I will accept it as a part of my life and try to do everything possible to reduce the pain and homeopathy being the first choice.

Do not go for surgery or start on any allopathic medications until you have given Homeopathy a try for at least about three to six months. Trust me, nothing is going to happen to you in these three to six months’ time. But if these medicines can help you manage your pain and avoid allopathic medications and surgery for the rest of your life, isn’t it worth giving it a try?

Take care.
