How common is glossitis?
A lot of people have glossitis, it is more commonly seen in children and elderly people.
What is glossitis?
Glossitis is something that happens in the mouth, you start getting reddish small eruptions on the tongue, inside the buccal cavity and you start feeling everything that you eat is spicy. You cannot eat anything, (your mouth feels tender and sore)
Sometimes it comes and within few days it goes away, this can happen because of antibiotics or some other medicines that you take. This is not a problem, but some people suffer from glossitis for a long period of time, it is called as chronic glossitis.
There are a lot of elderly people who have this problem, they just cannot eat anything spicy, the moment a little bit of spice touches the tongue or buccal mucosa, it burns. They spend a few weeks, months, and years not eating spicy food but they continue to have this problem, nothing helps.
Let’s not get into why it happens and all that but it is a very common problem. It happens in a lot of kids and elderly people.
Allopathic approach:
In allopathy, there is nothing much they can do about it. They give you B-complex and some multivitamins. Sometimes the doctor may give you some injections.
Homeopathic approach:
Homeopathy has got some wonderful medicines for glossitis, particularly chronic glossitis. You can take B complex along with homeopathic medicines. (We give you medicines which help to reduce the eruptions and swellings and over a period of time you can eat food normally.)
What happens if you leave it alone:
(Nothing much, but it becomes depressing to eat bland food every day for years together.)
Diet restrictions:
There are no diet restrictions to follow.
What would I do if I were in your place?
I would for sure not start on any allopathic medicines, they do not really help much. I know that I am not risking anything by giving Homeopathy around 3 to 6 months to try and get rid of glossitis.
Do not start on any allopathic medicines until you have given Homeopathy a try for at least about three to six months. Trust me, nothing is going to happen to you in these three to six months’ time. But if these medicines can help you get rid of glossitis and helps you eat food normally over a period of time, isn’t it worth giving it a try?
